What is the program of the World Jamboree ?

Before the World Jamboree itself, all Belgian Scouting Organizations leave together in pre-camp in the South of England. The departure will be on 23 July at the Heysel in Brussels. A visit of London is foreseen, in addition to a part of the trip that will be done by foot.

The IST arrive on the World Jamboree site on July 24, 2007 and attend a one-day training on the overall organization by the UK Scouting Organization. The next day, they will attend a specific training on their task during the camp. They will be accommodated in a separate ISTsub-camp where they will meet their international counterparts.

The leaders and participants arrive on the World Jamboree site on July 27. The first two days will be devoted to the installation of the tents, catering and decoration of the fields of the troops.

Everybody will join for the Opening Ceremony on July 28. That day we can all expect an unforgettable show in the main arena. Will the Queen of England attend it as well?
July 29, 30, 31 and August 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be days devoted to the World Jamboree Programme.  Everyone will get a chance to enjoy the same activities at different times. Hereunder is a short description of the activities. But for more information, please visit the UK Scouting Organization Website on:

Three days of activities will take place outside of the World Jamboree area:
  • ‘Gilwell adventure’: a real adventure day on the most famous of all Scouting estates: a rope course, a climbing wall, a kart track and lots more.
  • ‘Starbust’: a day for community service. With an international team, the participants will give a hand in a rest home for elderly people, clean up a polluted forest or build birdhouses.
  • ‘Splash’: The UK Sea Scouts prepared a special programme full of water pleasures. Half a day of water games next to a big lake and half a day on water, on a surfboard, in a canoe or on a self built dinghy perhaps?
The remaining activities take place on the field of the Jamboree.
  • Five half days in the ‘World Villages’ where workshops will be set up for you to discover the participating countries through five themes (Creativity, Culture and Customs, Art, Technologies and Progress, Sports and Games).
  • Half a day in the ‘Global Development Village’ where the World issues will be presented and debated in a playful way. Instructive and fun!
Four half days of activities to choose among the following options:
  • ‘Energise’: too much or too little energy? ‘Energise’ solves the problem. Build up your own circus, a bike or skate track.
  • The ‘Faith and Beliefs’ zone: A World Jamboree is not complete without a visit to that unique place in the world: a whole range of religions are presented side by side and invite you to join one of their own ceremonies.
  • ‘Village UK’ where you will be able to enjoy the United Kingdom at its best.
  • Don’t forget to join in the national sport on the Plaza: badge swapping! You can also buy a souvenir there, have a cup of Wiener coffee or taste Brazilian cookies.

On August 1st we will celebrate the ‘Scouting Sunrise’ together, the sunrise of the Scout sun, the start of a new centenary of Scouting. After that we will have a big breakfast on the lawn all together and we will remain together all day to play. The day will end with a giant carnival parade, where each one of us will both watch and join in.

The Closing Ceremony will take place on August 7.

On August 8, we pack up and go back home.

The Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen will organise a ‘Home Hospitality’ event after the Jamboree. The FOS will invite a foreign troop of Scouts and Guides to the pre-camp.
